This painting is inspired by the New Testament father who humbly pleaded with Jesus to heal his son, saying, "Lord I believe; help thou mine unbelief." (Mark 9:24) At some point in life I think we'll all feel desperate to believe in something or someone we cannot see. With irises as a symbol of faith, this painting explores what Christ can cultivate--even through our clumsy and imperfect attempts at belief.
